I'm never buying ordering shrimp and grits again

My Yelp profile tagline says "I'll give it 5 stars if it's better than my cooking." Now I'm not a great cook, but I'm adventurous and like to try new things. Often my rendition is nowhere close to the real thing, and I appreciate the effort that chefs put into their dishes. Other times, I make a dish and think wowww why did I pay so much money for such a simple dish when it's THIS easy??

So this dish is one example of that. I definitely fell into the New American shrimp 'n grits trap, but I'm clawing my way out and won't be ordering it in restaurants for awhile. This dish is deliriously good and take about 30 minutes of prep with fantastic results. Here's what I did:
  1. Cook polenta/grits according to package instructions, but replace water with milk, add a healthy knob of butter at the beginning (butter makes everything better), and a liberal serving of parmesan cheese when it's almost done cooking.
  2. Remove some spicy sausages from the casing, break sausage into pieces, and brown with garlic. Add shrimp until they turn pink, then squeeze in some lemon juice.
  3. Top polenta with sausage and shrimp. Decorate with some green stuff if you'd like (scallions, parsely, cilantro, whatever).
Look how easy that is! Now try it and see for yourself, goooo.
