Spring Break DC: Co Co. Sala

I'm a big brunch person but every once in awhile I get tired of it. All restaurants serve are savory dishes with eggs and bacon, and sweet dishes with pancakes or waffles. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but if restaurants aren't playful with their variations on this theme, brunch becomes...mundane.

(Amuse - chocolate walnut fritter)

Co Co. Sala has rejuvenated my perspective on brunch. They do the whole eggs, bacon, or waffle thing too, but there is much more thought behind each dish. And not just that, everything is crazy good.

My dish - breakfast flatbread. It's just hashbrowns covered with egg, bacon, chicken sausage, and tomatoes, plus sides of salad and fruit. Maybe it's just the presentation but it felt like something more because I was so happy to eat this despite its simplicity.

David got the hotcake obsession and oh my. They're not just any pancakes; they're citrus ricotta pancakes, and the texture is so light that it's souffle-like. They're covered in passionfruit syrup, with sides of lemon white chocolate cream and berry compote. Try to convince yourself that it doesn't sound good, just try. Ha you can't.

And lastly for dessert, we shared the onyx. It's a gorgeous chocolate mousse cake, although incredibly filling. I was just satiated after the main courses, but this tipped me over into the category of overly full :( But still worth eating. Co Co. Sala serves one of the best brunches in DC.
