California Road Trip: Market

My bf has been dreaming about this restaurant for quite some time. He heard about it about three years ago because it's #1 in SD on both Yelp and Zagat (and it's rare when those two sites agree) and he's had it bookmarked it ever since, stalking the website to drool every once in awhile. He made a reservation for us and we were both super pumped.

Amuse of goat cheese, diced veggies, and parmesan crisp (?). This bite was beautiful, and the goat cheese flavor went so well with each of the components, which is rare.

My crispy duck confit and organic figs salad. I was stuffed from lunch sadly, so I ordered off of the apps menu (the prix fixe looked so good, but we both figured we'd be crying from being so full afterwards, so we ordered a la carte). I actually expected something smaller, and was surprised that my plate was the size of what is normally an entree. This was very good, as the fruit paired deliciously with the duck.

David's cabernet prime beef shortribs aka their signature dish. The short ribs were braised beautifully and it was even better than my dish. I ended up eating half of his food puahaha.

At this point, we were stuffed already, but the food from the mains was so delicious that our eyes strayed to the dessert menu. We got the market bar, which was tasty but not a good choice because of how rich it was. Caramel popcorn on top of thick chocolate and peanut butter ganache, with chocolate ice cream and bananas.

As if we didn't have enough to eat already, the waiter surprised us with an anniversary dessert. We polished it off too. Not our best moment, but still yum. Overall, one of the best and most memorable meals of the trip.
